Personal-use property is any property in which substantially all of its use by the buyer isnt in connection with a trade or business or an investment activity. In general, increase your basis in a contingent payment debt instrument by the OID included in income. The FMV of the third-party note at the time of the sale was $30,000. Direct deposit also avoids the possibility that your check could be lost, stolen, or returned undeliverable to the IRS. Report OID on a CD in the same way as OID on other debt instruments. Additional consideration includes money and other property you pay or transfer to the buyer. It may also depend on the type of the debt instrument.
